He was born in Comayagua (1800). He initially lived in the city of Yoro, where he served as Mayor, in 1827; in 1829 he was appointed Acting Secretary General of the Honduran government and in 1854, during the Cabañas Administration, Secretary General and Minister of Finance and War.

He cultivated Chemistry, publishing in Paris, in 1857, Statistical Table of the Department of Graces, «preceded by a General Compendium of Statistics written by D. León Alvarado. He supported the liberal and unionist cause, accompanying Morazán in his exile to Panama.
