Biography of Rosendo Aguero

In February 1893, Ponciano Leiva entrusted the Presidency to his Minister of War, Rosendo Agüero.

Agüero attempted to negotiate with the liberal forces led by Policarpo Bonilla, but favorable results were not achieved in the first phase. However, certain agreements were reached in the second phase, from which Agüero had to retract due to pressure from General Domingo Vásquez, who held the real power since Ponciano Leiva’s presidency.

In April 1893, Agüero appointed Vásquez as Minister of Governance, assuming the role of the Executive Power. Leiva had resigned from the Presidency, which was accepted by the Congress, leading to the call for elections, in which Domingo Vásquez emerged as the winner.
