Municipality of Guaimaca

It is a municipality in the department of Francisco Morazán, in the Republic of Honduras.

In 1582, the indigenous town of Guaimaca is mentioned with twenty-two tributary Indians under the encomienda of Francisco de Gradi.

In 1682, the population was relocated to the site known as Coyoles. In the Cadiñanos census of 1791, it appears as the town of Guaimaca in its current location. In 1883, it is listed as a municipality in the district of Cedros under the name Santa Rosa de Guaimaca. Finally, in August 1993, it was granted the title of city by decree No. 19-93.

Located in the Guaimaca Valley and surrounded by mountains.

  • South: Municipalities of Cantarranas and Teupasenti (El Paraíso);
  • East: Municipalities of Campamento and Concordia (both in Olancho);
  • West: Municipalities of Talanga and Cedros.

Hydrography: Rivers Agua Fría, Jalán del Rosario, Guaimaca, and San José.
