Patuca National Park

The Patuca National Park is located in eastern Honduras, and covers 2,200 km2. The Patuca National Park, the Río Plátano Biosphere and the Tawaka Reserve form the largest tropical rainforest in Central America, extending from northern Honduras to Nicaragua, covering an area of 12,000 km² comparable to a quarter (¼) the size from Switzerland.

The majority consists of tropical rainforest and is of great importance for its variety of wild species in high danger of extinction, especially for animals that have territorial needs such as the tapir, the jaguar or the giant anteater. Toucans, green and scarlet macaws, pink herons and other beautiful and exotic birds such as the King Vulture and the harpy eagle enrich its forests.
