Biography Porfirio Lobo Sosa



On December 22, 1947, the Honduran Porfirio Lobo Sosa was born, in the lands of Trujillo, department of Colón. Thanks to the world of politics, he is better known as Pepe Lobo. His father was Mr. José Porfirio Lobo Sosa, originally from Catacamas, Olancho and his mother was Mrs. Rosa Sosa de Lobo.

He shared his childhood with three siblings, who took care of him as the youngest in the Lobo Sosa family. He learned his first letters at the Niño Jesús de Praga primary school in Juticalpa, Olancho department. He completed his secondary education at the San Francisco Institute, located in the capital city, specifically in Comayagüela, from 1961 to 1965.

After completing high school, he moved to Miami, United States of America, to pursue studies in business administration at the University of Miami, where he graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

After finishing his university studies, he returned to the country and has since dedicated over 38 years to agriculture and livestock activities, initially as an assistant to his father and later independently. This has made him a great expert in the field of agriculture and livestock.

From a young age, he became involved in political activities with the National Party of Honduras, following in his father’s footsteps, who was a leader in the Olancho community. As a result, he was elected as a congressman to the National Congress.

At the age of 20, he became the president of the Nationalist Youth of Olancho, and from there, he held various positions within the party until he became the president of the Central Committee.

For 11 years, he dedicated himself to sharing his knowledge at the public institute La Fraternidad in Juticalpa, where he taught English and economics to young students. He also actively participated as a member of the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CODEH).

Similarly, Pepe was one of the founders of the National Council of Producers for Agricultural Policy in Honduras (CONPPAH) and the Association of Ranchers and Farmers of Olancho (AGAO).

Pepe Lobo was elected as the President of Honduras for the period from 2010 to 2014 in the general elections held on November 29, 2009.
