Biography of Milton Omar Avila Benítez



Milton Omar Ávila Benítez, born in 1977 in the capital city of Tegucigalpa, is a graduate in sociology and holds a Master’s degree in Political Science. He is also a lawyer and human rights defender.

He is also a media personality with experience in the country’s press. Currently, he has his own program called «El Perro Amarillo,» which he broadcasts on the Facebook and YouTube platforms.

Benítez is a critic of the government administration led by Juan Orlando Hernández. In May of this year, he decided to venture into politics.

On June 6, 2021, he approached the National Electoral Council (CNE) to request information about the registration of his independent candidacy for the elections on November 28.

Since then, he has been collecting signatures in several municipalities across the country and has obtained over 80,000 signatures, surpassing the 65,000 required by the Honduran Electoral Law to register an independent presidential candidacy.

Recently, on July 6, the National Electoral Council notified Benítez that he had fulfilled all the requirements to participate in the upcoming elections on November 28 of this year.

This is the first time that Ávila Benítez, a 44-year-old, aspires to an elected position, and he will do so with the independent force «Honduras Humana,» under the motto: «How beautiful it is to be honest.»

Joining him in his campaign are María Gonzales, Anacleto Castro, and Lilian Ordóñez as designated presidential candidates.
