Biography of Yani Benjamin Rosenthal Hidalgo



He was born on July 14, 1965 (56 years old) in San Pedro Sula, Cortés. The Honduran businessman and politician started his career at the now-defunct Continental Group.

Yani is the son of the late businessman Jaime Rosenthal. His mother is Miriam Marina Hildago. He has a sister, Patricia, and two brothers, Carlos José and César Augusto. He is married to Claudia Madrid, with whom he has four daughters: Isabella, Victoria, Elissa, and Alexandra.

From 1971 to 1983, he attended primary and secondary school at the International School of San Pedro Sula. From 1983 to 1987, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Legal and Social Sciences from the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH).

In 1998, he obtained the title of Lawyer of the Courts of the Republic and Public Notary. From 1998 to 2000, he completed a Master’s degree in Business Administration (INCAE).

This is Yani’s 13th political campaign in the Liberal Party. In 1997, he participated as a sector coordinator for the Liberal Party in San Pedro Sula during the 1996-2000 presidential campaign, serving as an advisor to the Cortés Departmental Council.

From 2006 to 2008, he served as the Minister of the Presidency in the government of Manuel Zelaya Rosales. He was a member of the National Congress from 2010 to 2014 and a presidential pre-candidate in 2012.

Yani Rosenthal appeared before the US courts to answer for a criminal case in the United States, where he served a sentence. Upon returning to the country, a significant group of his political followers awaited him to support him as a presidential pre-candidate, a position he won in the internal and primary process in March 2021. He is now seeking the presidency of the Republic as the presidential candidate of the Liberal Party.
