Explanation of the National Anthem of Honduras
The National Anthem of Honduras literally consists of 7 stanzas and a choir. Each stanza is composed of 8 ten-syllable lines, which makes a total of 64 lines and has a metrical accent on the third, sixth and ninth syllables.
Musically it is said that it is made up of 7 solos and a choir that is repeated at the end of each solo or verse.
Below is the explanation of the National Anthem of Honduras.
Chorus
Imagine the flag as a glow from the sky, which is crossed by a symbolic white stripe of peace, serenity and purity, which must exist and stand out in the spirit of Hondurans. The five stars serve to remind us that the Central American states, today disunited, formed and will form a single country, strong, rich, and respected.
The emblem is the shield with the legend: Republic of Honduras, free, sovereign and independent, September 15, 1821, written in the oval. The rough sea represents the two oceans that bathe and protect the Honduran coasts.
The volcano becomes the national territory protected by these two seas. The sun rises and shines on the volcano, which in past times was an image of worship for the aborigines as the central point of the Universe. Father and guide that gives off light and heat to maintain the life of beings and things, that sun is rising to indicate that life develops every day in a way that is perennial youth.
First stanza
As a virgin and beautiful Indian, she personifies Honduras, a virgin because no strange man had placed the plant on her soil.
With her eyes closed to the light of European civilization, lulled by the incessant murmur of its seas and thrown in an attitude of long rest, with her riches piled up around her, this is how the Indian woman was when Christopher Columbus found her in the year 1502.
The discovery of so much natural beauty, perhaps unexpected, produced admiration and enchantment in the spirit of Columbus, therefore the vast sea consecrated the act with its waves on the beach as if they were kisses of eternal love.
Second stanza
Christopher Columbus had conceived the existence of other lands that would widen the world hitherto known by Europeans.
Firm in his conception and after exhausting marches through Portugal and Spain, overcoming many difficulties and making great efforts in several years, he was able to prepare the first expedition and ventured to navigate the Atlantic Ocean, without stopping until he found the foreboding land.
On the fourth and last voyage, Columbus discovered Honduras, taking possession of the territory on behalf of the Spanish kings, Fernando and Isabel on August 17 of the same year, 1502.
She returned to Spain, leaving her domains initiated in the new territory, which was therefore called Hibueras, which is why when the Indian who personified Honduras woke up and raised her forehead, she noticed with astonishment and concern that the Spanish flag was waving as a sign of discovery of Columbus in the land that had that luck as a historical heart.
Third stanza
The discovery was followed by the occupation and this the exercise of domain. To carry out the occupation came the conquerors who penetrated the territory from various directions. It was natural for the natives to resist using all their material and moral faculties. The year 1537 arrived.
The entire country was subdued by the conquerors, the people of Copantl had been defeated. The battle-hardened tribes of Cerquín were missing, they arranged their decisions and united against the common enemy, gathering a large army that they placed under the command of Lempira.
Willing to defend his homes, Lempira established his camp on the heights of Congolón, Coyucotena and Piedra Parada, which corresponds to the municipality of Erandique. Governor Francisco de Montejo sent Captain Alonso de Cáceres with the individuals available to subdue Lempira.
He did not accept the excitement of submission and obedience directed by those through some
special commissioners. Irritated, Cáceres resorted to the dishonorable means of betrayal: one of the emissaries he sent with a white flag, being a short distance from Lempira, fired his harquebus, wounding the hero in the forehead, who rolled down the rocky slope.
With the death of Lempira, the domain was established in the form of a colony, because the Indians, frightened by the death of their chief, gave up completely. And so it was useless for that exemplary man to offer his generous blood in defense of the freedom of his people.
Fourth stanza
Three centuries the Spanish domination lasted. During that time, the natives served and obeyed in true slavery, the colonial lords and authorities, in the name of the King.
The yearning for freedom boiled in the oppressed spirits and the demonstrations to enjoy that essential and inherent right of man to have responsibility were lost in the wind.
At last the great sons of the people subjected to the servitude of colonization, heard the echo of the roar produced by the revolutionary movement that was beyond the Atlantic Ocean.
Fifth stanza
It was the political birth of France in 1789, to establish as a rule of government and possible social organization, the will of the people based on the recognition of the rights of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity in opposition to the absolutism of the kings, the clergy and the the noble lords, which was a violent awakening to new life.
One of the champions of that formidable movement was Jorge Jacobo Dantón, orator and statesman who, attempting to moderate the situation created by the terror of 1793, was beheaded the following year.
King Louis XVI was weak before the power of his ministers, the nobility and the clergy, who opposed political and social reforms for the benefit of the people.
For this reason and in view of the fact that he tried to leave France, that King was sentenced to death as a criminal, of the crimes of conspiracy against freedom and attacks against the security of the State. At that time, the general obligation to worship reason was established, which was elevated to the category of goddess by the French.
Sixth stanza
Just like France, our country shook off servitude and presented itself before civilized countries without the chains that bound it and that it broke with the proclamation of Independence on September 15, 1821, to give itself personality in the world.
The sheets containing that proclamation arrived in Tegucigalpa on the afternoon of September 28, the event being celebrated with joy, respect and adherence by all the citizens gathered in the chapter house.
And from the blessed soil of Honduras, that unforgettable afternoon, behind the top of those hills and mountains, crowned with clouds that merge with the forests, the Spanish domination quickly disappeared, like a black and harmful bird that was lost in the horizon.
Seventh stanza
Because Honduras is always and in all circumstances free, sovereign and independent, your children we swear to use all the resources and forces at our disposal, united with effort and loyalty in the idea, the feeling and the will and we declare that destiny will be bright and happy if death finds us with our thoughts set on the Homeland demonstrating that the love of she is above all things.
And for the defense of the National Flag, which for us is sacred because it contains the dignity
collective, and to present at all times the triumph and greatness of peace and war will die at its foot, like lions, thousands, in terrible combat, all the Hondurans that are necessary, leaving in the successors in the blood and the spirit, models of honor that they will know how to imitate with dignity.
