Los Angeles, USA, (EFE).- For the first time in history, the Oscars will open their voting to the public and will recognize the film with the most votes on Twitter, it was announced this Monday the Hollywood Academy.
From today until next March 3, Internet users will be able to choose their favorite film using the hashtag #OscarsFanFavorite and also select the scene they enjoyed the most this year under the motto #OscarsCheerMoment.
The best messages will be included in the gala broadcast on March 27 and, in addition, the Academy will raffle among all participants three trips to next year’s ceremony, where the winners will be able to present one of the awards .
In addition to Twitter, you can also vote for your favorite film from the organization’s website.
«The Oscars are an opportunity to unite people from all over the world with their love for cinema and through these activities, social media users now have more opportunities to interact with the gala in real time, form a community and be part of the experience,» said the Academy’s vice president of digital marketing, Meryl Johnson, in a statement.
The organization insisted that it will simply «recognize» the film with the most votes, which may not be nominated for the awards, but that the initiative does not inaugurate any official category.
In 2019, after several years in which the Oscar audience was plummeting, the Academy proposed the creation of a category that would reward the most «popular» film of the year, but the idea did not prosper.< /p>
Its intention was to attract the audience of ‘blockbusters’, such as the Marvel, DC Comics and Star Wars franchises, without having to include them in its general categories, reserved for auteur or independent films.
In fact, this year none of the ten films nominated for best picture are among the ten highest-grossing films of the season.
