Municipality of Florida
Florida is a municipality in the department of Copán in Honduras.
The origin of its name is believed to be due to the rich and flourishing vegetation of its fields. Mr. Francisco Pineda, who was the founder of the municipal seat, named it Florida.
Initially, it was known as «Aldea San José de los Yulpates,» created around 1836. Taking into account that in that year the title of the ejidos was granted to the residents of that Aldea, it was given the status of a municipality in 1884.
Its patron saint fair is celebrated on April 29th.
Location
The municipality borders the Republic of Guatemala to the north, San Nicolás and San Antonio to the south, La Jigua to the east, and San Antonio and El Paraíso to the west.
