Municipality of José Santos Guardiola

The municipality of José Santos Guardiola belongs to the Department of Islas de la Bahía.

It is the most recently created municipality in the department, during the administration of Dr. Ramón Villeda Morales. It was designated as a municipality on February 5, 1960.

Origin of its name: The place was named in honor of Honduran President Santos Guardiola, who successfully recovered the islands from the English.
