Municipality of La Encarnación
La Encarnación is a municipality in the Department of Ocotepeque in Honduras.
It is a former village composed of immigrants from the Republic of Guatemala and El Salvador who saw the opportunity to exploit the fertile lands located on the banks of the El Playón River, from which its first name «El Playón» originated. It used to be under the jurisdiction of the Municipality of San Jorge.
On January 18, 1889, the Municipality of San Jorge held a session where they decided to move the Municipal headquarters to the village of El Playón and agreed to rename it La Encarnación.
Location
The municipality borders San Fernando to the north, Fraternidad and Lucerna to the south, La Unión (Copán) to the east, and San Jorge to the west.

Economic Activity
The cultivation and production of high-quality coffee beans are prominent. The municipality is home to the La Encarnación Coffee Cooperative (COPROCAEL), one of the coffee trading organizations in western Honduras.
