Municipality of San Jose Copan



San José is a municipality in the department of Copán in Honduras.

It was created on March 7, 1890; it was granted the status of a town according to Decree number 35 dated January 19, 1939; it was given the title of a city according to Decree number 109 dated March 1, 1954; on July 23, 1921, the residents of the Village of Quezailica requested the separation of said Village from the municipal term of San José and its annexation to Santa Rosa.

Location

The municipality borders Trinidad de Copán to the north, Santa Rosa de Copán to the south, Lepaera and Naranjito to the east, and Veracruz to the west.
It is located in the eastern part of the department, with its municipal seat situated on a plain adorned with picturesque cabins.
