Municipality of San Miguelito

It is a municipality in the department of Francisco Morazán, in the Republic of Honduras.

It was formerly known as Valle de El Camarón and was under the jurisdiction of Alubarén.

It was granted municipality status in 1864. In the political division of 1889, it is listed as San Miguelito, belonging to the district of Reitoca.

Origin of its name: Its name is derived from the diminutive form of the patron saint, San Miguel Arcángel.

Cultivation of staple crops, sugarcane, coffee, and vegetables; raising of cattle, horses, pigs, and goats; poultry farming.

Location

The terrain is very rugged, surrounded by hills, located between Alubarén and La Libertad.

  • North: municipality of Alubarén;
  • South: municipality of La Libertad;
  • East: municipality of San José (Choluteca);
  • West: municipality of Curarén.
