Municipality of Veracruz
Veracruz is a municipality in the department of Copán in Honduras.
In the Political Division of 1896, it was listed as a village within the Municipality of San José. Formerly, it was the village of Quetuna. On June 3, 1902, the residents of that village requested the creation of a new municipality. The village of Veracruz was established as a municipality within the jurisdiction of San José, Copán Department.
Location
The municipality borders Trinidad de Copán and San José to the north, Santa Rosa de Copán to the south, Santa Rosa and San José to the east, and Dolores to the west.
It is located in the central part of the department, and its municipal seat, the town of Veracruz, is situated in the Quetuna Valley at the southern base of Cerrón.
