Municipality of Bonito Oriental

The municipality of Bonito Oriental belongs to the department of Colon .

Bonito Oriental is a recently created municipality. It was initially an aldea (village) of Trujillo, and later on, it was granted municipality status on April 28, 1987, under the administration of José Simón Azcona Hoyo.

Principal economic activity

Cultivation of bananas, African palm, cocoa, citrus fruits, basic grains, fruits, coffee, and vegetables; breeding of cattle, pigs, and horses; rabbit farming and poultry farming.

  • Education: 24 community centers for pre-basic education, 7 centers for basic education, 4 centers for in-person secondary education, 94 centers for primary education, and 1 private education center (CETAD)

Location

It is located in the coastal plain of the Caribbean in the Aguán River basin and is crossed by the Bonito River.

  • East: Municipalities of Limón and Iriona
  • West: Municipality of Tocoa
