Boquerón Mountain

Located in the department of Olancho, between Juticalpa and Catacamas, at the foot of these hills the city “San Jorge de Olancho” was founded in 1540, which was destroyed in 1611 by the eruption of two volcanoes on whose slopes the city was.

The surviving inhabitants headed north and founded Olanchito. This is the only written report on relatively recent volcanic activities in the interior of the country. Boquerón is currently an abrupt geological formation that is difficult to access, with an interesting floristic composition.
