Biography of Salvador Corleto
Born in Ocotepeque (1867) and died in Tegucigalpa (1957). He was a lawyer and politician. One of the founders of the Morazánic Institute, he contributed to the drafting of the bases of university autonomy by collaborating in the writing of its statutes.
In his hometown, he founded the «El Adelantado» College, now known as the «Juventud Hondureña» Institute, and taught at the secondary level both in his country and in El Salvador and Costa Rica. He served as a deputy to the National Congress in 1911, 1919, and 1922, as well as in the General Central American Constituent Assembly held in Tegucigalpa in 1921.
He served as Plenipotentiary Minister to the Costa Rican Government and Confidential Agent to the Governments of Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua in 1904, 1906, 1908, and 1909. He was Minister of Agriculture, Development, Public Works, and Labor in 1907, 1921, 1929, and 1930. He was also the leader of the Central American Unionist Party, President of the Association of University Students in Guatemala.
Affiliated with the Liberal Party, he became President of the Convention and was the founder of the Unionist Workers Society. He authored the first draft of the Labor Code decreed by the National Congress in 1929, during the presidency of Vicente Mejía Colindres.
