Cast Me on the Path by Alfonso Guillén Zelaya
Lord, give me a path and push me to the sea,
send me in all directions through forests and deserts,
through plains and pebbles or through flowery orchards,
for I am tired of resting so much.
Give me any path to pilgrimage,
today I have the impulses of the journey awakened;
throw me into all the seas, guide me to all ports,
for I love uncertainty and cannot wait.
I only await your voice to embark on the march;
I will not fear the thorn, nor will the frost freeze me,
and I will savor the sustenance you offer me.
I will offer myself as a staff if I find someone fallen,
as a father if there is an orphan, as hope if I forget:
but throw me onto the path that I want to roll on.
