National Water Day (First Saturday in October)
In 1992, AIDIS, CWWA, and PAHO began the celebration of Inter-American Water Day, which is commemorated on the first Saturday in October. This commemoration reaffirms the permanent commitment of the partners of this initiative.
It arose as an initiative in the XXIII Inter-American Congress of AIDIS, held in Havana, Cuba in 1992. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Inter-American Association of Sanitary Engineering (AIDIS) and the Caribbean Association of Water and Wastewater ( CWWA) signed the declaration of the Inter-American Water Day.
In 2002, the Organization of American States (OAS) joined this initiative.
