Municipality of Apacilagua
It is a municipality of the Department of Choluteca, in the Republic of Honduras.
Founded in 1831. In the 1887 population census, it appeared as a municipality of the Orocuina district. The district headquarters was moved to the town of Apacilagua. It was given the category of municipality on October 12, 1908, during the administration of Miguel R. Dávila.

Origin of its name: The true spelling is «apatzinhua,» an ethnic derivative of «apat zinhuacan,» which means «place with small jugs or pitchers.»

Location
It is located in the coastal plain of the Pacific, with its headquarters north of the Grande or Choluteca River.
