Municipality of Curaren
It is a municipality in the department of Francisco Morazán.
It was established as a municipality on July 2, 1735. In the first population census of 1791, it was already listed as Curarén, forming part of the curate of Aguantequerique.
In the first political territorial division of 1825, it was part of the Comayagua party. In 1843, it became part of the Choluteca department, in 1869 it was transferred to the La Paz department, and in 1878 it was added to Tegucigalpa (now Francisco Morazán). In the political territorial division of 1889, it was one of the municipalities of the Reitoca district.

Origin of its name: It is believed to mean «next to the lands of the Colhuas» in Mesoamerican language.

Principal Economic Activity
Cultivation of basic grains, sugarcane, and vegetables; raising of cattle, horses, pigs, and goats.

Location
Located near the mountains of La Tigra, Anís, and Cimarrón.
Limits
- North: Municipality of Lepaterique;
- South: Municipalities of Langue and San Francisco Coray (both in Valle);
- East: Municipalities of Reitoca, Alubarén, San Miguelito, and La Libertad;
- West: Municipalities of Aramecina, Caridad (both in Valle), Lauterique, and Aguánqueterique (both in La Paz).
Hydrography: Rivers Agazapa Grande, Patacón, and Zapote.
