Municipality of Duyure

It is a municipality of the Department of Choluteca, in the Republic of Honduras.

Its origins place it in the La Soledad Valley as its first name. In the national census of 1895, it is registered as a municipality, a status that was given to it during the administration of Policarpo Bonilla.

Origin of its name: It means in Mesoamerican language: «ravine of the coyotes.»

  • Climate: Rainy with a very dry winter.

Main economic activity

Cultivation of staple grains, bananas, sugarcane, sweet peppers, coffee, onions, and tubers; raising of cattle, pigs, horses, and goats; poultry farming.

  • Education: 10 primary education centers, 1 face-to-face secondary education center, and 4 kindergartens.
  • Communication Network: Telephone, mail, passable road in summer.

Location

It is located in the northeastern extreme of the department; its headquarters is located south of the Grande or Choluteca River.
