Municipality of Intibuca
The municipality of Intibucá belongs to the Intibucá Department.
In the report of 1582, made by the Governor of Honduras, Alonso de Contreras Guevara, it appears as Intibucá.
In the ecclesiastical census of 1791, it is listed as a curate of Gracias (now Lempira). The municipal category was granted in 1866, under the presidency of José María Medina. When the department that bears its name was created, it fell under its jurisdiction.

Located in the Puca Opalaca mountain range, surrounded by mountains.
