Municipality of San Antonio de Oriente
It is a municipality in the department of Francisco Morazán, in the Republic of Honduras.
The history of this town dates back to 1600 in the community of San Antonio de Yusguare, which was divided into two extreme cardinal points: west and east. Eventually, only San Antonio de Oriente remained, as confirmed by records dating back to 1826.
In 1889, during the political territorial division, this place appeared as a district formed by the municipalities of Maraita, Tatumbla, and Valle de Angeles. This picturesque town served as inspiration for the famous primitivist painter José Antonio Velásquez.
