Municipality of San Juan de La Paz
The municipality of San Juan belongs to the Department of La Paz.
The oldest recorded data of this town is found in the ecclesiastical census of Cadiñanos in 1791, considered as a valley of the Aguanqueterique curacy. In Antonio Vallejo’s 1889 statistical yearbook, it appears as a town founded in 1739. It was granted the status of municipality in 1883, during the government of Marco Aurelio Soto.

Origin of its name: in honor of its patron saint, Saint John. Also named after Juan de Llanos, who was one of its founders.

Located in a small valley on the banks of the San Juan River.
