Municipality of Santa Ana La Paz

The municipality of Santa Ana belongs to the Department of La Paz.

Its original name was Cacauterique, which appears in the report of Governor Alonso de Contreras Guevara in 1582 as an indigenous village in Comayagua, entrusted to Yseo de Herrera with fifteen tribute payers.

In the census of 1801, conducted by Governor Ramón Anguiano, it is listed as an indigenous village within the parish of Cururú. It was granted the status of municipality on February 11, 1838. In the 20th-century censuses, it only appears as the municipality of Santa Ana.
