Municipality of Victoria

Victoria is a municipality located in the southern part of the Department of Yoro in Honduras.

Location

The municipality borders the municipalities of Yoro, Morazán, and El Negrito to the north, the municipalities of La Libertad, Minas de Oro, and San José del Potrero to the south, the municipalities of Yorito and Sulaco to the east, and the municipalities of Santa Rita and Santa Cruz de Yojoa to the west.

Historical Data

In the Territorial Political Division of 1896, it appeared under the name «aldea Morillos,» belonging to the municipality of Sulaco. In 1902, with the following agreement, the municipality of Morillos was created, which later changed its name to Victoria on September 2nd.

The municipality has the following 33 villages: Victoria, Bajo Grande, Buenos Aires, Coyolito, El Jicaro, El Mango, El Pataste, Guarabuqui, Jacagua, La Zarza, Las Flores, Las Lomas, Las Vegas, Lomas del Jícaro, Los Cacaos, Méndez, San Isidro, Santa Lucía, Tierra Amarilla, El Manzano, Caballo de Piedra, Agua Fría, San Juan, Alto Pino, La Laja, Platanares, Agua Escondida, Montefresco, Linda Vista, Palo de Combas, Cuevitas, Agua Blanca, and El Zapote.
