October 14 – World Day for the Prevention of Natural Disasters

The United Nations General Assembly decides to designate October 13th as the date to commemorate the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction.

On December 22, 1989, the United Nations General Assembly in Resolution 24/236 «decides to designate the second Wednesday of October as the International Day for Disaster Reduction, to be observed annually during the Decade in accordance with its goals and objectives.»

On December 21, 2001, the United Nations General Assembly in Resolution 56/195 «decides to continue to observe annually, on the second Wednesday of October, the International Day for Disaster Reduction as a means to promote a global culture of disaster reduction that includes prevention, mitigation, and preparedness.»

On December 21, 2009, the United Nations General Assembly in Resolution 64/200 «decides to designate October 13th as the date to commemorate the International Day for Disaster Reduction.»
