Municipality of Alauca

It is a municipality in the Department of El Paraíso.

The first recorded data of the site dates back to 1801 when it was part of the parish of Danlí. This information is confirmed in the first territorial division of 1825.

When the department of El Paraíso was created, it remained under the jurisdiction of Danlí. It was designated as a municipality in 1904 during the presidency of General Manuel Bonilla.

Origin of its name: It means «cotton field» in Mesoamerican language.

Location

Located in the highlands of the Dipilto mountain.

Limits

  • North: municipality of San Matías;
  • South: Republic of Nicaragua;
  • East: municipality of El Paraíso;
  • West: municipalities of Yuscarán and Oropolí.
