Municipality of Esquias

Esquías is a municipality in the department of Comayagua in Honduras.

The name Esquías comes from Esquipulas, a city in the Republic of Guatemala, where there is a «Black Christ» in its Catholic temple.

It is a mountainous region in the Comayagua Department, located 140 km northwest of Tegucigalpa. The community has a population of 1,500 inhabitants, and there are around 21,000 people living in the surrounding villages. One of the colonial and oldest buildings located in front of the central park has been renovated to become the new library (previously the Community Center).

Recently, the municipality has started paving its streets to enhance its Colonial Village character. The Catholic Temple stands out, housing a «Black Christ» that has historical significance according to the locals.

The park has an enviable history and scenic beauty.

There is a public library with internet service, as well as other internet access centers, public telephony, mobile telephony, and cable television.

The roads from Comayagua to the Municipality of Esquías and the surrounding areas are in terrible condition, despite this municipality being one of the largest producers of the aromatic coffee bean. There are many politicians, but none seem interested in the development of the municipality and its villages.
