Municipality of Nueva Arcadia

Nueva Arcadia is a municipality in the department of Copán in Honduras.

It existed since 1740 as «Hacienda Santa Efigemia» and grew rapidly due to the influx of workers who came to settle with their families to work there.

In 1837, the municipality was formed under the name Nueva Arcadia, with the hamlet of Santa Efigemia Hacienda becoming the municipal seat. According to Resolution No. 361 issued by President Ramón Villeda Morales, the municipal seat was relocated to La Entrada on April 29, 1961.

Location

The municipality borders Macuelizo in the department of Santa Bárbara and Florida to the north, San Nicolás to the south, Protección to the east, and La Jigua to the west.
The village of Nueva Arcadia is located on a small plain formed by Cerro de los Tablones, while La Entrada is situated to the west of the Salsoque River.
