Biography of Nasry Juan Asfura Zablah



Nasry Juan Asfura Zablah was born on June 8, 1958. He is a politician and construction industry entrepreneur. He served as a deputy in the National Congress of Honduras representing the National Party of Honduras for Francisco Morazán and served as the mayor of Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, from 2014 to 2022.

He is known as Tito Asfura or Papi a la orden for his dedication to work and helping others.

Family Life

Tito Asfura was born to Palestinians who immigrated to Central America during the Arab-Israeli conflict in the 1940s.

He studied primary and secondary school at the San Francisco Institute in the capital of Honduras and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Science and Literature. He began studying economics and later civil engineering at the National Autonomous University of Honduras but did not complete his studies.

He started his career as a construction entrepreneur before working in the public sector in the 1990s.

He is married to Lissette del Cid de Asfura, and they have three daughters together: Monique, Stephanie, and Alexandra.

Political Career

Asfura, 62 years old, served as a council member of the capital city, minister of the Honduran Social Investment Fund (FHIS), deputy for Francisco Morazán, and elected mayor for the 2014-2018 term and reelected for the 2018-2022 term.

He is the vice president of the Regional Executive Committee (RexCom) for Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean (Local Governments for Sustainability) since 2017, as well as the vice governor of the Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities (UCCI) for the Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean region.

He was recently elected president of the Coalition of the Americas Cities for Climate Change, where he has led programs and policies to strengthen the position of local and regional governments globally.

Honduras 2021 Presidential Candidate

Tito Asfura became the presidential candidate of the National Party after winning the primaries in March, defeating Mauricio Oliva.

Initial polls showed a close race between Asfura and leftist opposition candidate Xiomara Castro, the candidate of the Libre Party and wife of former president Manuel Zelaya, before she won the presidential elections for the 2022-2025 term.
