Biography of Norman García
Norman García has been advisor to the President of the Honduran Council of Private Enterprise (COHEP), as well as to the Board of Directors.
He served as Director of the Center for Research and Economic and Social Proposals (CIPRES), which is a center for thought and analysis (Think Tank) and is part of the Foundation for Investment and Development of Exports (FIDE).
CIPRES formulates and promotes development policies based on the principles of free enterprise, conducts research and generates proposals and recommendations that are made available to the Executive Power of the Government, Congress, the private sector, civil society and the media. . Consequently, CIPRES develops constant activities related to a wide range of policies (economic, fiscal, infrastructure, etc.).
Mr. García also served as the Ambassador of Honduras to the United States of America in Washington DC Previously, he was appointed Minister of Industry and Commerce, and it was during his term that the Free Trade Agreement between the Dominican Republic, Central America and the United States of America (DR-CAFTA).
His experience in the public sector also includes being the first Minister of Tourism in Honduras. He served as a Project Manager for a development corporation, and as an Industrial Development Planner, while serving in the Ministry of Planning.
Mr. Garcia has also had extensive experience in the private sector. He was First Executive Vice President and later Executive President of FIDE for a period of fifteen years. FIDE is dedicated to encouraging investment in Honduras and promoting its exports.
As a young engineer, he served as a machinery and equipment sales representative at Allis Chalmers and Ingersoll Rand. He was Production Manager in a factory manufacturing soaps, detergents and chemical specialties. He also served as General Manager of a company dedicated to the assembly of televisions and sound equipment under license from Zenith Electronic Corporation. Likewise, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of several companies.
Norman Garcia was born in the city of San Pedro Sula, Honduras. He graduated as an Industrial Engineer from California State Polytechnic University (Cal Poly) in 1968.
Norman is married to Nancy Mejia. He has two sons, Norman and Alan.
