October 9 – Day of Dionisio de Herrera
The birth of the Honduran hero Dionisio de Herrera will be celebrated on October 9.
José Dionisio de la Trinidad de Herrera y Díaz del Valle was the author of the first Constitution of Honduras (1825). He was elected the first Supreme Head of the State of Honduras in 1824 and dismissed in 1827 by the conservatives of Guatemala after a clerical insurrection led by the canon Irías.
His government followed a progressive line, through which he organized the Honduran state. In addition, he tried to promote agriculture, industry, and immigration among other things. For these reasons, in Honduras he is considered the Father of the Nation, and he is one of the Honduran heroes.
