Municipality of Lucerna
Lucerna is a municipality in the Ocotepeque Department in Honduras.
The origin of its name dates back to the year 1875 when a European bishop visited the area. On a dark night, he observed a multitude of little lights, which were the abundance of fireflies. Inspired by this sight, he decided to change the name of the place, and according to the locals, it was baptized as Lucerna.
In the Political Territorial Division of 1889, it was one of the municipalities in the Sensenti District, belonging to the Department of Copán.

The municipality borders La Encarnación to the north, Sensenti to the south, Corquín and La Unión (Copán) to the east, and Fraternidad and La Labor to the west. It is situated in the Sensenti Valley, with its headquarters located south of the Río Grande.
