Municipality of San Francisco de la Paz

San Francisco de la Paz is a municipality in the department of Olancho in Honduras.

The original name of the town was San Francisco Zapata, but it was changed by Bishop Francisco de Paula Campoy y Pérez to its current name. In 1829, the town was divided into two parts, with the northern part occupied by Ladinos and the southern part by Indigenous people.

In the municipal hall, there is a marble plaque placed on January 21, 1930, commemorating the first centenary of the famous capitulation of «Las Vueltas del Ocote.» The plaque bears the inscription «Vini, Vidi‐Vinci, Francisco Morazán January 21, 1830.» In the Territorial Political Division of 1889, it was a municipality in the District of Manto.

Location

The municipality borders the municipality of Gualaco to the north, the city of Juticalpa to the south, the municipality of Santa María del Real to the east, and the municipalities of Manto and Guarizama to the west.
