Municipality of San Jose de las Colinas

San José de las Colinas is a municipality in the department of Santa Barbara in Honduras.

The site was initially called «San Antonio» after the name of God of Tamagazapa. This municipality was created under the name of Nueva Florida de San José on January 28, 1812. It has a land area of 247.0 km2.

Location

The municipality is bordered by the municipalities of San Luis and Trinidad to the north, Nuevo Celilac, Gualala, and Santa Barbara to the south, Trinidad and Ilama to the east, and San Luis to the west.
Additionally, it is bordered by the Jicatuyo and Ulua rivers.

Economic Activity

The municipality’s economic activity is centered around agriculture. Its main crops include basic grains, sugarcane, coffee, fruits, and vegetables. Livestock farming includes horses, cattle, goats, and pigs, as well as poultry farming. Additionally, the residents are involved in the production of hats and other crafts made from junco, a type of reed.
