In 1860, the town began to form with people arriving from Concepción, initially calling it «El Tablón del Guayabo» due to the abundance of guava trees. Later, it changed its name to the current one: Santa Fe. In the population census of 1887, it was already listed as a municipality forming part of the Ocotepeque District.

Location

The municipality borders Concepción to the north, Ocotepeque to the south, Concepción and Ocotepeque to the east, and the Republic of Guatemala to the west. It is located in the Ocotepeque Valley, east of the Frío River.
