The Department of Colón is located in the north in the eastern part of the country. It has a territorial area of 8,249 km².
Its departmental capital is Trujillo, it was created on December 19, 1881 and divided in 1859.

- East: Department of Gracias a Dios;
- West: Departments of Yoro and Atlántida.
