Municipality of La Esperanza

The municipality of La Esperanza belongs to the Intibucá Department.

The first settlers were of the Lenca ethnicity. According to the statistical yearbook by Antonio R. Vallejo, this city began to be populated by Ladinos in the early 19th century under the jurisdiction of the current department of Lempira. In 1883, it was granted city status, and when the Intibucá Department was created, it became its departmental capital.

Cultivation of basic grains, potatoes, blackberries, strawberries, peaches, quinces, coffee, sugarcane, and vegetables; raising of cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, and goats; poultry farming. National parks: forest of dwarf trees.

Location

Located on a plateau, it borders the La Paz Department.
