Municipality of La Union Copan

La Unión is a municipality in the department of Copán in Honduras.

This municipality is located in the southern part of the department, on the left bank of the Higuito River. In the population census of 1883, it was listed as a village of Cucuyagua.

It was granted the status of a municipality in 1895, according to an agreement issued by the Political Governor of Santa Rosa on November 14, 1894. It appeared as such in the Political Division of 1896, forming the Cucuyagua District.

Location

The municipality borders Santa Rita and San Agustín to the north, Lucerna and Corquín to the south, Cucuyagua to the east, and La Encarnación and Lucerna to the west.
It is situated in the southern part of the department, on the left bank of the Higuito River.
