Municipality of San Lucas

It is a municipality in the Department of El Paraíso, in the Republic of Honduras.

It was founded in 1583 under the jurisdiction of the parish of Texiguat, as confirmed in the population census of 1791. It was designated as a municipality on August 2, 1875, and on October 28, 1886, it became part of the department of El Paraíso.

Origin of its name: It was named after the devotion of its early settlers to their patron saint, Saint Luke.

Main Economic Activity

Cultivation of basic grains, fruits, and vegetables; breeding of cattle, horses, and pigs; poultry farming.

Location

Surrounded by mountains and hills, it borders the southwest corner of the Francisco Morazán department.

Limits

  • North: municipality of Güinope;
  • South: municipalities of Texiguat and Vado Ancho;
  • East: municipalities of San Antonio de Flores and Oropolí;
  • West: municipalities of Yauyupe and Maraita (Francisco Morazán).

Hydrography: Dolores and San Sebastián rivers.
