Municipality of San Matias

It is a municipality in the Department of El Paraíso, in the Republic of Honduras.

In the 1887 census, it appears as a village of Danlí. On March 20, 1925, during the administration of Miguel Paz Barahona, it was designated as a municipality and its first authorities took office on May 1 of the same year.

Origin of its name: It was named in honor of its patron saint, Saint Matthias.

  • Transportation: Buses that travel the eastern corridor with a terminal in the capital.

Location

Surrounded by hills, it borders the municipality of Danlí to the east.

Limits

  • North: municipality of Jacaleapa;
  • South: municipalities of Alauca and El Paraíso;
  • East: municipality of Danlí;
  • West: municipality of Yuscarán.
