Municipality of Trojes

It is a municipality in the Department of El Paraíso, in the Republic of Honduras.

It is a recently created municipality. For some time, it was a village within the municipality of Danlí until it was granted the status of a municipality on September 1, 1987, through Decree No. 27-87, approved by the executive branch, with José Simón Azcona Hoyo as the president of the republic.

Origin of its name: Probably derived from the synonym for corn granaries.

Main Economic Activity

Cultivation of basic grains, vegetables, citrus fruits, sugarcane, and coffee; breeding of cattle, horses, pigs, and goats; poultry farming.

  • Education: 177 primary schools, 65 pre-basic education centers, 24 basic education centers, 16 kindergartens, and 1 high school.
  • Transportation: Buses connecting from Danlí.
  • Communication network: All-weather passable road, mobile phone coverage.

Limits

  • North: municipalities of Catacamas and Patuca (both in Olancho);
  • South: Republic of Nicaragua;
  • East: Republic of Nicaragua and municipality of Catacamas (Olancho);
  • West: municipality of Danlí.
