Economy
The municipality offers all hospitality services, including hotels, restaurants, internet cafes, and commercial stores. The main economic activities in the population are agriculture (coffee, basic grains), livestock farming, and general commerce. A significant source of employment is the El Mochito Mine, located one kilometer from the town.
It is worth noting that the only source of employment in this municipality is mining, which has been exploiting the region’s underground resources for decades. Currently, the mining company is looking to excavate in the El Palmar village, as this area contains a significant amount of minerals that have not been extracted due to the veins of Lake Yojoa. However, this implies entering underground areas, which poses the risk of flooding a large part of the mine.
For sports activities, the municipality has basketball and soccer courts, a recreational area for young children, and a beautiful central park. Additionally, there is a recreational area for families to enjoy.
