Municipality of Masaguara
The municipality of Masaguara belongs to the Intibucá Department.
In the ecclesiastical census of 1791, conducted by Fernando de Cadiñanos, it appears as a curacy of the parish of Chinada. In the statistical yearbook, it is already listed as a municipality founded in 1801, affiliated with the circle of Jesús de Otoro.

Origin of its name: According to Alberto Membreño in «Indigenous Toponyms,» Masaguara means «place with deer.»
