Municipality of Valle de Angeles

It is a municipality in the department of Francisco Morazán, in the Republic of Honduras.

The place was originally named La Marranera, which may have been due to the pig farming in the area and/or the abundant wildlife, particularly the large number of wild boars (chanchos de monte) that existed in La Tigra and descended to the villages. The municipality was also known as El Cimarrón, referring to the runaway black slaves who escaped from work in the mines of Santa Lucía and San Antonio de Oriente. In 1865, it was designated as a municipality known as Valle de Ángeles.

During the Liberal Reform, mining activities were carried out within the jurisdiction of this town, including «Los Ángeles» and «Las Ánimas.»
